About Hoover Color Corporation

Hoover Color Corporation's business can be divided into four areas:

  1. The mining, production, and sales of natural and blended Iron Oxide pigments. From its inception, Hoover Color Corporation has been blending pigments to rigid color specifications for their customers. With the purchase of the Hiwassee facility in 1970, Hoover Color Corporation also acquired mineral deposits, which made it fully integrated in the mining and manufacturing of Siennas, Umbers, and Ochres. These rich earth tones are the hallmark products for Hoover Color Corporation, especially Raw and Burnt Siennas.

  2. Crayola Crayons and PigmentThe toll manufacturing of a wide variety of pigment blends. Due to its leadership in pigment blending technology, Hoover Color Corporation has been asked by customers to manufacture a wide variety of blended pigments, some based strictly on iron oxide pigments and others based on a wider range of pigments. The largest of these toll manufacturing programs is a collaboration with Binney & Smith, the manufacturer of "Crayola Crayons," "Silly Putty," and both "Crayola" and "Magic" Markers. In an exclusive agreement, Hoover Color Corporation manufactures all of the pigment blends required to manufacture Binney & Smith products. The current total is 530 products made out of 200 different raw materials.

  3. The distribution of a wide variety of pigments, both under the manufacturer's label and manufactured to Hoover Color Corporation's specification in toll production agreements. In order to offer our customers a wider range of colors, Hoover Color Corporation has reached agreements to distribute certain pigments and has contracted the toll manufacturing of others. Various synthetic and natural Iron Oxide pigments, mixed metal oxides, Van Dyke brown, high performance Carbon Black and Bone Black pigments are all distributed in order to give our customers a complete range of inorganic colored pigments.

  4. Hoover Automatic MullerThe manufacture and sale of the Hoover Automatic Muller. Hoover Color Corporation has always been in the forefront of color control. In the early 1940's, Hoover Color Corporation recognized the need for a more consistent way to prepare pigment samples for color evaluation. In order to accomodate this need, the Hoover Automatic Muller was developed. The Hoover Muller has since become the standard piece of testing equipment for the pigment industry. It is also widely used in the ink and cosmetic industries. The Hoover Muller has been recognized in both ASTM (American Standard Testing Methods) and ISO (International Standards Organization) as an approved way to prepare samples for color evaluations. Hoover Color Corporation markets the Muller world wide on a direct basis. Learn more about the Hoover Automatic Muller
